The decrease in viscosity is widely used to estimate the activity of pectinolytic enzymes. This method is shown to be influenced by the production strain and this prevents an accurate comparison between the activities of different microorganisms, especially under different conditions.
27 strains of mieroorgenisms including moulds, bacteria, aetinomyees and yeasts, which produced substances that flocculated a kaolin clay, were screened. One sU'ain, identified as Arthrobacter sp., secreted biofloeculant during growth. The flocculant ('MF-6) was purified to eleclrophoretic homogenei
