## Abstract Linkage and association analyses have played important roles in identifying susceptibility genes for complex diseases. Linkage tests and familyβbased tests of association are often applied in the same data to help fineβmap disease loci or validate results. This paradigm increases effici

Abstract
We applied linkage analysis with a sibβpair method, which also takes into account information on unaffected siblings, and familyβbased methods of association analysis to determine the disease affecting loci in Problem 1. Whereas the first two disease loci were correctly identified by association analysis, the sibβpair linkage method failed to detect the disease loci 3 and 4. We therefore determined the data structure and sample size necessary for demonstrating linkage to these loci. Β©1995 WileyβLiss, Inc.

This report summarizes the Genetic Analysis Workshop 14 contributions related to fine-mapping strategies, in which examining smaller regions by association with single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) can yield savings in genotyping and multiple-testing penalties. The aim of the analyses conducted in
Linkage analysis and association studies, two major approaches for genetic studies of human diseases, are useful for mapping genes that are highly penetrant, but both use only part of the information that is available for mapping disease genes. Therefore, they provide limited utility when used alone
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex disease which is partly determined by genetic factors which influence susceptibility to the disease phenotype. In this association study we try to define the high risk haplotypes which are responsible for this disease, together with other environmental
In this paper, a genome search is performed on the GAW Problem 1 data, in an attempt to determine which, if any, of the marker loci are associated and/or linked with the disease. Since there was no clear indication from the data of the likely mode of inheritance, methods were used which did not requ
