โฆ Synopsis
The use of tumor necrosis factor a (TNFa) inhibitors such as infliximab, etanercept, and adalimumab for various autoimmune diseases, including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), has increased in the past few years. While associated with symptomatic relief in many patients, the use of TNFa inhibitors is associated with an increased risk for infections, in particular infections due to mycobacteria, endemic mycoses, and Listeria. There are also increasing reports of infections due to Salmonella species 1,2 in patients who have received TNFa inhibitors. We present a case of Salmonella septic arthritis in a patient receiving infliximab and review the literature.
