✦ Synopsis

Male mud fiddler crabs (Uca pugnax) were shown to hyperosmoregulate in 10% and 50% seawater (SW) and to hypoosmoregulate in 150% and 200% SW. Crabs fully immersed in the media did not osmoregulate as well as those that were free to enter or leave the medium at will ("natural" environment). Gill sodium-plus-potassium ATPase (Na,K-ATPase) enzyme specific activity was characterized in crude homogenates. After acclimation (21 days) in 10% SW, all six gill pairs in immersed crabs showed significantly

## Abstract Both male and female blue crabs were shown to hyperosmoregulate efficiently at low salinities. The posterior gill pairs, particularly numbers six and seven, exhibited the highest specific activity of Na, K‐ATPase in crabs adapted to full‐strength seawater. When the crabs were acclimated

Juvenile blue crabs, Callinectes sapidus, extensively utilize oligohaline and freshwater regions of the estuary. With a presumptively larger surface-area-to-body weight ratio, juvenile crabs could experience osmo-and ionoregulatory costs well in excess of that of adults. To test this hypothesis, cra

## Abstract The time course of induction of activity of carbonic anhydrase (CA) and Na/K ATPase, two enzymes that are central to osmotic and ionic regulation in the eyryhaline green crab, __Carcinus maenas__, was measured in response to a transfer from 32 to 10 ppt salinity. CA activity was low in

The European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, tolerates salinities ranging from freshwater (FW) to hypersaline conditions. In two experiments, we analysed changes in plasma ions, muscle water content (MWC), gill Na+,K(+)-ATPase activity, and alpha-subunit mRNA expression during the course of acclimat

Treatment of avian myelomonocytic cells with 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 (1,25(OH)2D3) results in an approximately two fold increase in levels of Na,K-ATPase b1 subunit mRNA and protein (both total and plasma membrane-associated). The changes in b1 subunit expression occur in the absence of a detectab
