The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has recently published definitive guidance on the use of quantified risk assessment in decision making. This paper reviews that guidance with respect to major chemical industrial hazards (with particular reference to large scale cryogenic systems and plant) i

large. Actis and Crovini (IMGC) reported that individual Pt RTs for industrial use are more reproducible than their production tolerances and international standards would indicate. However, they found in their extensive study that the correct interpolating equation depends on sensor type and manufacturer. So, the price to be paid for using an industrial grade Pt RT in place of a higher quality one is that detailed calibrations must be done. D. Linenberger, E. Spellicy and R. Radebaugh (NBS, Boulder, CO, USA) discussed their measurements of the thermal response times of Ge and carbon RTs, diodes, and a miniature Si-onsapphire resistance device at temperatures of 4, 77, and 295 K. The results were expected to be useful as rough guides to the selection of a proper thermometer for the measurement of transient temperatures.
