It is demonstrated that the Rydberg term values observed in ffle spec:ro of polyatomic molecules at 5-15 eV also ap ply at 100-500 eV, and can beprofikbly used to assign Rydberg spectra in the X-ray region The constancy of the terin value follows from the oneelectron &&z of the optical electron in the Rydberg state.
