✦ Synopsis

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C 10 H 26 N 2 O 2 2+ Á-2NO 3 À , comprises one half of an N-diprotonated (R,S)ethambutol cation, which lies about a centre of symmetry, and a nitrate anion. In the crystal structure, a two-dimensional network is formed via intermolecular O-HÁ Á ÁO and N-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds.

The title compound, C~10~H~28~N~2~O~10~S~2~, was synthesized by the reaction of concentrated sulfuric acid with (__R__,__S__)-ethambutol. The zwitterionic amino–sulfate system, protonated at both N atoms, lies about a centre of symmetry. The asymmetric unit also contains a solvent water molecule. In
