We have investigated, at high resolution (0.03 cm À1 ), the 1593 cm À1 structure observed in the IR absorption spectrum of water trapped in solid argon doped with nitrogen. It exhibits a doublet at 1592.59 ± 0.05 and 1593.08 ± 0.05 cm À1 and a line centered at 1592.93 ± 0.05 cm À1 . The central comp
