✦ Synopsis
Laser excitation spectra of the (A^{\prime}{ }^{5} \Delta-X^{5}) II ((0,0)) and ((1,1)) bands of (\mathrm{CrO}) have been recorded in the region (11750-12000 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}). Each band was found to consist of five distinct subbands. corresponding to the five case (a) allowed spin components of a " (\Delta-{ }^{5}) Il transition. The present data are combined with FTIR emission data for the (A^{5} \Sigma^{4}-X^{3}) II ((0.0)) band system recorded by Cheung er al. [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 104, 315-336 (1984)], enabling the determination of improved molecular constants for the (X^{5}) II and (A^{5} \Sigma^{+})states as well as the first set of reliable constants for the (A^{\prime 5} \Delta) state. Several rotational perturbations in the upper (A^{\prime s} \Delta) are noted. Possible candidates for the perturbing states are discussed. c 1993 Academic Press. Inc.
