The Xe-Cl2 van der Waals complex formed in a supersonic expansion is excited by a two-photon process at 29'3.5 nm.

The XeCI* fragment obtained is vibrational& cold. This result is discussed and compared with those of the Xe* + Cl2 reaction and laser-assisted collision.
