The recently developed concept of entropy-controlled formation of van der Waais complexes based on standard molar changes of enthalpy and entropy has been found unsatisfactory. A thermodynamically consistent trcxtment shows that actual molar chanses of enthalpy and entropy can depend strongly on esp

Abstract
The T__Δ__S^0^ term has been estimated for various types of van der Waals molecules and its importance for the stability predictions has been demonstrated. With hydrogen‐bonded complexes the absolute values of Δ__H__^0^ and T__Δ__S~0~ are comparable at 289°K. With true van der Waals molecules the T__Δ__S^0^ term even represents a dominant contribution to Δ__G__^0^.

Van der Waals complexes composed of naphthalene and triethylamine have been studied in free jet expansions by fluorescence excitation and resonance-enhanced two-photon ionization techniques. Intermolecular vibrational bands with frequencies of 8 and 40 cm-' appear to promote exciplex formation. The
The solvation and structure of vdW complexes formed in supersonic free-jet expansions of perylene with rare gas atoms and organic "solvent" molecules, using helium as carrier gas, have been investigated. The complexes were probed and analysed by combining laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy with
