On a survey around three North Sea oil fields in 1980 the biodegradation of the hydrocarbons ~4C-naphthalene and 14C-benzo[a]pyrene was measured. An amino acid mixture was taken as reference substrate for total heterotrophic activity. The rate of uptake of naphthalene was found to increase with decr
