The extent to which the activity of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons is influenced by dopamine (DA) was investigated using in vivo microdialysis of cortical acetylcholine (ACh). Systemic administration of the DA receptor agonist apomorphine significantly increased dialysate concentrations of ACh.
