✦ Synopsis

A temperature controlled sample in a SQUID magnetometer or susceptometer cannot fill the cross-section of the gradiometer pickup due to the requirement of a cryogenic insulating space between the sample and the superconducting pickup. Return-flux corrections beyond those accounted for by the ordinary demagnetizing factor are thus required. Such corrections as applicable to spheroidal samples are calculated herein, and some of their applications and consequences discussed.

Flux correction in the finite element context is addressed. Criteria for positivity of the numerical solution are formulated, and the low-order transport operator is constructed from the discrete high-order operator by adding modulated dissipation so as to eliminate negative off-diagonal entries. In modeling flow in open channels, the traditional finite difference/finite volume schemes become inefficient and warrant special numerical treatment in the presence of shocks and discontinuities. The numerical oscillations that arise by making use of a second-and higher-order schemes require some a

## Abstract MR susceptometry‐based blood oximetry relies on phase mapping to measure the difference in magnetic susceptibility between intravascular blood and surrounding tissue. The main source of error in MR susceptometry is the static field inhomogeneity caused by an interface between air and ti
