We have analyzed the function of the CYP1A1 promoter using in vitro transcription. Using nuclear extracts from HeLa cells, we found that transcription from the promoter in vitro was constitutive. Transcription in vitro was not increased by prior exposure of the HeLa cells to the inducer 2,3,7, 8-tet
