The orientational order S of a dichroic dye dissolved in a liquid crystal has been determined in the nematic, smectic A and smectic B phase of 4-n-hexyloxybenzylidene-4'-nhexylaniline. The used method is based on the absorption measurement of unpolarized light in a homeotropic oriented liquid crysta
