✦ Synopsis

Renal excretion of urea was assessed in adult and larval Ambystoma tigrinurn by comparing simultaneous clearances of urea and inulin. The mean adult urea clearance ratio (Cu/C,,) was 0.70 2 0.08 indicating net urea absorption. Larvae yielded a mean CV/CI, of 0.92 2 0.04. Individual larvae were quite variable however as approximately 30% displayed Cu/CI, > 1. There was a significant negative correlation between Cu/Cln and fractional water reabsorption. Comparisons of larval kidney urea concentration (K,) and plasma urea concentration (P,) revealed a mean K,P, of 1.43 & 0.15. Treatment with 2,4-dinitrophenol decreased

A pulsed Doppler was used to determine cardiac output noninvasively in partially restrained unanesthetized neotenic tiger salamanders, Ambystoma tigrinum (mean wt. 105.0 gm Ifi 13.7 SD, N = 5). Although mean heart rates were similar, mean stroke volume (0.18 ml Ifi 0.06) and cardiac
