✦ Synopsis

FTIR spectroscopy has been used to detect iron pentacarbonyl, Fe(CO) 5 , in carbon monoxide gas. The capability of PbO/g-Al 2 O 3 as a compound to remove Fe(CO) 5 in CO gas was investigated using FTIR spectroscopy. The amount of iron pentacarbonyl in the CO gas was determined by spectroscopic means and by a complimentary technique based on the analysis of the iron content of spent PbO/g-Al 2 O 3 particles.
