Remarkable Solar Protuberance.--Abont 11 A.M. oil the 30th of August [,. Thollon noticed a smtdl and very brilliant luminous .jet near tile sun's equator. About 12 h. 45 m. it had attained 1)rodiglens pr(q)ortions, while still l,'eserving the f;)rm of a luminous jet from "t direction nearly normal to the border of the sun. The result of frequent nmastn'emeuts indicated "t height of l)rotuberance' at least equal to half of the smfs radius, or more than 200,000 miles. Whilst the lower :lad middle pttrt~ of the l)rotul)eranee gave a deviation of the C line towards the violet end of the spectrum the summit presented a slmil:u' d(wi:~ti,m tmvards the red end.-(bmpยข.
