β¦ Synopsis
By means of the technique of laser-induced fluorescence, the room-temperature vibrational relaxation of DF(u = 1) has been studied in the presence of several polyatomic chaperones. The rate coefficients obtained [in units of (p~ec.torr)-~] are CH,, 0.22; CzHs, 0.61; C4Hl0,1.26; 1.0 x 10-3; CBrF3, 5.6 X lo-,; NF3, 5.1 X lo-,; SO2, 1.27 X and BF3, 7.1 X Results are also reported for vibrational relaxation rate coefficients for HF(u = 1) in the presence of the following chaperones: CH4, 2.6 X 10-2; GHs, 5.9 X C3H8, 8.4 X 10-2; and C4Hl0, 0.128. rate coefficients for D F are approximately an order of magnitude larger than for HF. The deactivation rate coefficient of DF(v = 1 ) by CH, was found to decrease with increasing temperature between 300 and 740Β°K.

## Abstract The rate of vibrational relaxation of HF(__v__ = 1) by F atoms has been calculated using quasiβclassical trajectory techniques. An attempt has been made to account for the effects of multiple potential energy surfaces on the vibrational relaxation efficiency within the electronically ad
