TWO FIGLLBES
Wilber and Soauiaii ('48) have shown that CoEpidiuln ccrnipylunt, when cultured in a purely protein medium, is capable of synthesizing lipids and they have estimated the amounts of fatty acids and lipid phosphorus present in the organism. They made no correlation between growth and syiithesis of lipid. Since the rate of metabolic processes in many protozoa, as reflected in the respiratory quotient, varies with the age and growth phase of the culture (Hutchens, '41, Ormsbee, '42; Reich, '48) it seemed desirable to ascertain the relation between amounts of lipids produced a i d the growth in population of the culture.

We have reported that infusion of recombinant human hepatocyte growth factor (rhHGF) stimulates liver regeneration after hepatectomy in cirrhotic rats and increases the level of serum lipids and secretion of very-low density lipoprotein (VLDL). Studies were now performed to determine whether rhHGF d
In the yeast Candida utilis an associative temperature profile was found with respect to thermal death and growth. The cardinal temperatures were the following: optimum temperature for growth, 36 "C, minimum temperature of thermal death, 37.9 "C; final maximum temperature for growth, 40.1 "C; initia
## Abstract Environmental risk assessment of chemicals is mostly based on the results of standardized toxicity tests. To obtain environmental quality criteria, extrapolation factors are used that depend on the amount and quality of available data. These extrapolation factors do not, however, take i
To assess the clinical relevance of transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1) in chronic liver disease, urinary TGF-beta1 and circulating aminoterminal propeptides of type III procollagen (PIIINP) levels were determined by radioimmunoassay in 100 cirrhotic patients, 44 patients with chronic hepat
