β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Cyclic AMP (cAMP) causes growth arrest in G~1~ and induction of cAMP phosphodiesterase and decrease of ornithine decarboxylase in S49 mouse lymphoma cells. Dibutyryl cAMP treatment of partially synchronized cells causes similar changes in activities of both enzymes, regardless of position in the cell cycle. This suggests that cAMP regulation of these enzymes is not mediated by growth perturbation.

A portion of fetal germ cells undergoes apoptosis in the physiological context, but the molecular mechanisms of their apoptosis are largely unknown. Because p53 tumor suppressor gene product promotes apoptosis in various types of cells, we have investigated the expression of p53 in fetal gonads and
A melanin-associated agent seems to play a role in regulating retinal development. When absent, diverse deficits occur. There is evidence that this agent regulates patterns of mitosis. This study examines retinal development in pigmented and albino rats to identify the regulating agent and its mode
To investigate the role of iron in hematopoiesis, we studied effects of iron deprivation on PMA-induced monocyte/macrophage differentiation in HL-60 cells. Iron deprivation induced by desferrioxamine (DF) blocked PMA-induced differentiation and induced S-phase arrest and apoptosis in up to 60% of ce
