## Abstract Fluorescent derivatives of polyacrylamide can be prepared by reacting an acidic aqueous solution of the polymer with xanthenol and dibenzosuberenol. These reactions take advantage of the carbocation stability of these dyes when they are treated with acid (i.e., pK~R+~ values near zero).
