✦ Synopsis

The reduction of the complexes of Mn(I1) with formate and sulphate ions is quasireversible. The formation constants of the corn lexes have been determined by the polarographic meth od: of Mn(I1) with sulphate and formate ions The reversible half-wave potentials are calculated from the observed E,,, by Koryta's treatment for manganese-sulphate complexes and by Gellhrgs' treatment for manganese-formate complexes. The formation constants are calculated by DeFor d and Hume's method. With sulphate, three complex species, [Mn(SO,)], [Mn(SO&]x-and [Mn(S0,)sJ4-having p1 = 85 /II = 9-O and PI = 93 are formed. With formate, two complexes are formed, [Mn(HCOO)]+-and ~(I-ICOO),],

having /I1 = 3 and /3x = 15. The percentage distribution of various species present in manganes+formateandmanganes+sulphatesystemarepresented.
