New BV RI observations for 40 and spectrophotometric measurements for 23 F to G LMC supergiant candidates (and 3 galactic F to G supergiants) are presented. The errors of the BV RI data are 0.01 to 0.03 mag in most cases. The wavelength range of the spectra is 3400 to 6400 Γ…, their resolution 10 Γ….

A procedure for selecting samples to use in multivariate calibration, inspired by a paper by Zemroch, is proposed. The method developed is designed for multicollinear data and is based on cluster analysis. It selects among available spectra the samples to submit to chemical analysis and calibration.
