✦ Synopsis

Vocal cord paralysis is associated with malignant thyroid disease with an incidence of 11.3 per cent'. It is rarely found in association with benign diseases of the thyroid. In the same series of 1200 thyroidectomies a figure of 0.69percent was recorded. The association of recurrent nerve palsy and thyroiditis is even rarer. Six cases of thyroiditis complicated by vocal cord paralysis are now reported.
