β¦ Synopsis
Damped oscillatory decay of an excited state in a mo:ecule is related to the vibrational properties of the molecule. It is shown qualitatively that a sirrple description of Poincard recurrence patterns can be obtained by choosing the proper approximate representation for the nowmissive vibrational manifoid, yielding partial recurrences associated with directly coupled approsimate vibrational eigcnstrttes.

It is shown that the fluorescence and intorsystem crossing in monocyclic diazines originate from the second excited singlet state (S$. The occurrence of these phenomena is justified on the basis of the slow S, -E+ internal conversion resulting from the low density of states.
