✦ Synopsis


A Fourier transform mass spectrometry analysis of the ion/molecule reactions of small carbon cluster anions (C"-, n = 4-9) with hydrogen sulfide are reported. Carbon anions were produced from a partially graphitized petroleum coke. All the anions proved to be reactive towards H2S, different reaction products being produced from the even-and odd-numbered carbon anions. Second-order rate constants were determined for the reactions.
