## Abstract The flash photolysisβvacuum ultraviolet kinetic absorption spectroscopy technique has been used to measure the absolute rate constant for the reaction of ground state S(^3^__P__) atoms withnitric oxide,\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}${\rm S}\left({^{\rm 3} P} \r
Amides were allowed to react with nitric oxide in aprotic and non-ethereal solvents to give the corresponding N-nittoso derivatives. The reaction was accelerated by addition of oxygen. The solvent effect revealed that the reaction did not proceed in the presence of protic media.
Rate constants for the reactions of 1 -and 2-hydroxyethyl radicals with O2 and NO were measured at room temperature by laser flash photolysis-photoionization mass spectrometry method. The results are as follows (in units of cm3 moleculec' s-I): CH>CHOH+O> ((2.8+0.2)x10-I'); CH,CHOH+NO ((2.4kO.6)XlWI
