โœฆ Synopsis

I,I,2,2-Tetramethyldisilane reacts with Fez(CO)9 to yield bis(u-dimethylsilylene)-u-car-bony1 bis(tricar-bonylironJ(Fe-Fe). Reaction with octacarbonyldicobalt analogously gives bis(u-dimethylsilylene)bis-(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co) as stable product; spectroscopic results also indicate inter alia the formation of (tetramethyldisilyl)tetracarbonylcobalt, u_(dimethylsilylene)-~-carbonyl-bis(tricarbonyl)cobalt(Co-Co), and cobalt cluster compounds. Reactivity of zerovalent transition metal compounds toward Si-Si bonds seems to be greatest for the nickel triad and to decrease as one moves from right to left across the transition series.

1). The aromatic protons form an AA'BB' system and the three-membered ring protons and ABX system. The detailed analysis of both systems permits exact determination only of the parameters of the aromatic protons. Protons and coupling constants of the ABX system can be assigned on the assumption that
