✦ Synopsis

A kinetic and synthetic study of the reaction of benzyl chloride with bromide ion has been performed in microemulsions composed of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, 1-butanol, water, potassium bromide, and hexane; rates and yields of benzyl bromide formation decreased with increasing hexane content.

Benzyl chloride and benzyl acetate were photolyzed in 30% methanol-water mixtures (V/V) at 0Β°C. The photolysis produces benzyl carbocations that react with nucleophiles. The reaction products were analyzed by gas chromatography or liquid chromatography. From the amounts of products the relative valu

Gas-phase nucleophilic substitution reactions of Y-benzyl chlorides with X-phenoxide and Xthiophenoxide nucleophiles were investigated theoretically using the PM3 semi-empirical MO method. The Leffler-Grunwald rate-equilibrium and BrΓΈnsted correlations predict that the degree of bond formation in th
