The kinetics of ozonation of C,H, and C,H, have been studied in the gas phase from -40 to -95Β°C (C,H,) and + I 0 to -30% (C,H,). The 0, concentrations were near M, and the hydrocarbons were present in 2-to 25-fold excess. A few experiments with propylene were also carried out. The reactions were fol

β¦ Synopsis
The reactions of vanadium and cobalt clusters, generated by laser vaporization, with ethylene and acetylene were studied by using a fast flow reactor. In the reaction of small V, with CZH4, the dehydrogenated products V,C,, V&H, were observed. Upon increasing the cluster number, the intensities of those products decrease monotonically, while those of V,,C,H, increase. Similar results were observed in the reaction of V, with C2H2. On the other hand, only non-dehydrogenated products were observed in the reaction of small Co,, with C2H4, but for larger clusters (n > 9) the dchydrogenatcd products Co& and Co,,C?H, appcarcd.
The contrast between the reaction of V, and Co, is related to the heats of adsorption and the structure of adsorbed products.
