β¦ Synopsis
The chenl~umincscence from the reacrions of Ba with ICJ and IBr have been studied. Emission could be obsetwd only from B&l and BaBr. A broad emission in rhe near-lR could not be unambiguously assigned. The formation of IX-Ar (S = Cl, Br) van der Wnals conlplcxcs quenched the chomihminescencc channel.

Raman spectra of solid ICI and IBr have been measured up to 20 GPa using a diamond anvil cell. Drastic changes in the spectra between 6 and 9 GPa in IBr represent first indications for new phase transitions.
The reactions between triphenylphosphine sulfide (Ph 3 PS) and ICl in CCl 4 and IBr in CH 2 Cl 2 in 1 : 1 molar ratio give the solid adducts Ph 3 PS Β΄ICl (I) and Ph 3 PS Β΄IBr (II) whose structures have been solved by X-ray diffraction. Compounds I and II consist of discrete molecule units and featur
