## Abstract Based on rate equations of semiconductor laser, a symbolicallyโ€defined model for optical transmission system performance evaluation and network characterization in both timeโ€ and frequencyโ€domains is presented. The steadyโ€state and smallโ€signal characteristics, such as currentโ€“photon de
