✦ Synopsis

Small, prepacked columns are tested for fractionating petroleum hydrocarbons from crude oil and product oils. Both normal-phase (silica) and reversed-phase (C,,) stationary phases yielded fast, easy, and reproducible separations, which facilitated further analysis of the oils by gas or liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The different separation characteristics of the stationary phases offer great flexibility in fractionating oil, enriching special compound classes, or separating hydrocarbons from environmental matrices.

A method for determining urine porphyrins by HPLC is described. In the preliminary step, porphyrins are purified in high yields and concentrated by low pressure reverse-phase chromatography on CIS (octadecylsilane bonded silica) cartridge. Porphyrins are stable for 10 days after adsorption on C18 ca
