Abstract
The nitrile stretching region of binary solutions of phenol in propionitrile has been studied by means of Raman spectroscopy. The number of independently varying spectral components in this region was determined by Factor Analysis to be two. The results of Factor Analysis were supported by the observation of a pseudo‐isosbestic point. The band envelope was fitted with Lorentzian—Gaussian product functions using a non‐linear least squares procedure. The results indicate the formation of a 1:1 complex. Equilibrium constants calculated for the complex formation reaction showed a strong concentration dependence.
