✦ Synopsis
We have investigated the Raman scattering in RE,BaCuO,, where RE=Y, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu, in the 50-1500 cm-' region. We have also recorded the electronic spectra of some of these RE,BaCuOS. From these studies, we concluded that the broad Raman band located at about 1100-I 177 cm-' was an overtone band, and its origin was not due to electronic Raman scattering as has been previously attributed.
