โœฆ Synopsis


Eleven new rare-earth antimonides and bismuthides RE 5 M 2 X (see Table 1) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray powder methods. The compounds are isostructural to the previously reported pnictides RE 5 M 2 X and adopt the Mo 5 B 2 Si structure (space group I4/mcm, an ordered version of Cr 5 B 3 ). Atomic and thermal parameters have been re5ned for Ho 5 Ni 2 Sb and Ho 5 Ni 2 Bi. Extended HuK ckel tight-binding calculations performed on Y 5 Ni 2 Sb show strong Y+Ni, Y+Sb, and Y+Y interactions.
