โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
Lowโfrequency Raman spectra are reported for monodisperse oligoโoxyethylenes with hydroxy and alkoxy end groups. Assignments are made to the longitudinal acoustic modes. The results are modeled by a rod with a longitudinal modulus E โฅ 2.2 ร 10^10^ N m^โ2^ and perturbing forces as large as (alkoxyโended oligomers) or larger than (hydroxyโended oligomers) those suggested for the nโalkanes.

## Abstract The chain modulus of poly(ethylene oxide) is determined by the Raman longitudinal acoustic mode method with the aid of a normal coordinate analysis and found to be 1.3 ร 10^11^ dyn/cm^2^. Our normal mode calculations provide a clear basis for explaining the discrepancy between chain mod
