Abstract

Determination of the circulating alpha fetoprotein (AFP) can be used to differentiate between choriocarcinoma or hydatidiform mole and normal pregnancy. Whilst a positive pregnancy test is common to all these states, the serum AFP was found to be elevated only when a fetus was present.
