## Abstract Tetraarylsuccinonitriles 2a–e were synthesized via oxidative dimerization of diarylacetonitriles 1a–e in basic media. The thermal decomposition of 2 results in two identical cyanodiarylmethyl radicals 3. Both ^1^H and ^13^C NMR analyses of 1a–e and 2a–e and ESR spectra of 3a–e are prese

The kinetics of the decomposition of benzotrifluoride was studied from 720"c to 859"~ in a flow system with and without carrier gas. Consideration of the product distribution made possible the study of the decomposition into CF, and C,H, radicals, which appeared to be truly homogeneous in character.

This comment refers to the recent article of this title by S. W. Benson [ll, in which he returns to an H-atom chain mechanism for the low-temperature acetylene pyrolysis. That article contains a fairly complete chain mechanism and a critique of the alternative molecular (vinylidene) scheme proposed
