✦ Synopsis

The quantitative interpretation of the fluorescence quenching of anthracene in various solvents based on a recently deveIoped theory of radiationless transitions is given. It is shown that high temperature results can be expIained in terms of the Sl-+ Ta transition only_ so there is no need to assume the T3 state to lie at a particular energy to obtain a consistent picture.
