β¦ Synopsis
Using sub-picosecond optical techniques we have investigated nonradiative relaxation in azulene and deuterated azulene in solution The lifetime of the f-t excited singet was found to be 1.9 + 0.2 ps independent of deuteration The ground s?ate recovery was also measured and found to be 1.9 + 0.5 ps.

It is shown to be possible to identify dominant modes of radiationless relaxation of ions in crystals by comparing photoacoustic spectra with fluorescence excitation spectra. The dominant decay mode for Cr3\* in MgO is shown to be quite different from that found in ruby. Photoacoustic spectroscopy (
