Bacterial growth rates on the rhizoplane of rape seedlings grown in sand were determined using 3H-thymidine incorporation into DNA. Axenic roots incorporated thymidine into DNA, which had to be subtracted from values for roots with associated bacteria. Thymidine incorporation into rhizoplane bacteri
