In the title salt, C~8~H~7~N~2~
^+^·C~7~H~5~O~4~
^−^, one of the quinoxaline N atoms is protonated. The cation and anion are nearly coplanar and are connected into a cyclic R
~2~
^2^(7) motif generated by N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen-bonded ionic pairs are arranged into double stacks, in which quinoxalinium and 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate ions alternate.
