✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The unusual grinding effects observed in the 1D spin crossover polymer [FeL(bipy)]~n~ (1), with L being a tetradentate N~2~O~2~^2–^ coordinating Schiff base type ligand {(3,3′)‐[1,2‐phenylenebis(iminomethylidyne)]bis(2,4‐pentanedionato)(2–)‐N,N′,O^2^,O^2^′} and bipy = 4,4′‐bipyridine, are investigated using magnetic measurements, X‐ray powder diffraction and optical reflectivity studies. The observed behaviour can be explained when solvent effects are taken into account. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2008)
