The removal of \*UF6 (A state) molecules by selected alkanes has been investigated at 25OC. The following rate constants (units of 10" I/mol-sec) were evaluated ~S O -C ~F I ~, 0.0432 f 0.0115; n-C4Flo, 0.0764 f 0.020; CZF6, 0.0192 f 0.0052; CH4, 0.0612 f 0.0061; C&3,3.78 f 0.60; C~HS, 5.08 f 0.60;
Rate constants at 25ยฐC have been evaluated for the quenching of electronically excited UF 6 by selected organic molecules. Values for the rate constants at 25ยฐC (units of 1011 R/mole s) for CH4, C2H6, C2F6, CHF2-CHF2, C2H2, and C2H4 are 0.061,3.8, 0.022, 0.072, 6.0, and 5, respectwely.
UFs undergoes decomposition m the presence of SF6 when mixtures of both are madiated wrth a TEA CO2 laser. The mechanism for UFe decomposition may involve vrbrational energy transfer from excited SF, and laser absorption from the same laser pulse by excited UFe in its vibrational quasi-continuum \*
