✦ Synopsis


In the present paper a mechanism is presented, to be called quantum well transfer, especially suited for use in Monte Carlo transport calculations.

This new process provides a means for a phonon-assisted coupling between confined two-dlmensional states in a GaAs/A1GaAs heteroJunction quantum well and the 3D Bloch states existing in the bulk material.

The case of polar-optical phonon-assisted 'quantum well escape' is elaborated.
