Five discrete excitor& transitions were observed in quantum dots, i.e. quantum-sized Cd& as a function of particle size. The experimentally determined energy levels of the excitonic states were compared to eigenvalues calculated from products of two particle-in-a-box s or p orbitals.

Stationary and time-resolved quenching measurements of the excitonic and trapped fluorescence of quantum sized CdS colloids were carried out. We found that nitromethane is only capable of quenching the excitonic fluorescence nearly completely, whereas a fraction of the trapped fluorescence, the amou
The effect of permanent hole burning is studied in the absorption spectra of quantum-sized CdS nanocrystals embedded in a polymeric film. The prolonged UV irradiation of CdS particles with mean diameter of about 3 nm and wide size distribution results in the formation of well-resolved dips with full
Since the crystal size of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) affects the optoelectronic properties of QDs, a method of controlling the size is important. It is demonstrated that CdSe QDs electrodeposited epitaxially on {111} Au can be tuned from <5 to ∼ 20 nm by introducing small amounts of Te into th
