✦ Synopsis
The title compound, 2, and its 2-methyl salt, 8, have been synthesised
The pKa of the conjugate acid of 2 is similar to those of ellipticine and its 9-hydroxy and 9methoxy derivatives, and intercalation studies with DNA show that 2 and 8 have association constants comparable with the anti-cancer ellipticine derivatives.
